Codan Limited is an ASX 100 listed global technology group. Founded in 1959 and headquartered in South Australia, we develop and deliver trusted communications, connection and detection solutions across sectors including defence, public safety, humanitarian, broadcast, security and consumers.
We have employees located in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Mexico, Singapore, the UAE, UK and USA. Our products and solutions are sold in more than 150 countries.
Across the world, Codan company technologies are used in conditions defined by uncertainty, pressure and consequence, from tactical and emergency communications to metal detection and other specialist systems. In these moments, the role is clear: to help people make better decisions and act with confidence when it matters most.
What connects all of this is not the technology itself, but the people behind it and the outcome it enables. Codan brings together a portfolio of specialist businesses powered by highly skilled teams, each with deep expertise and trusted customer relationships.
Together, they are backed by the scale, capability and long-term investment of a global group, with a proven track record of developing and commercialising advanced technologies.
History
Codan was founded by friends Alastair Wood, Ian Wall and Jim Bettison in 1959 to tackle a range of challenges in electronics engineering.
Over the decades, we have made a name for ourselves in quality and innovation. In 1980, our equipment was chosen by the United Nations to support their relief efforts in Uganda, cementing us as the leading global supplier of HF communications to humanitarian organisations.
Publicly floated in 2003, Codan acquired Minelab Electronics in 2008, developer of the world’s best hand held metal detection technology.
This highly successful acquisition was followed by the additions of Daniels Electronics in 2012 and Domo Tactical Communications (DTC) and Zetron Inc. in 2021, cementing our world-class product offerings in Communications & Metal Detection.
Today we are a trusted, high-performing global technology group that delivers confidence when it counts.

Communication
DTC is a global leader in the research, development and manufacture of wireless radio frequency communications systems for the world’s most demanding operational environments. Based in Whiteley, Hampshire, with teams across the United States, Denmark, Singapore, Dubai and Australia, DTC engineers work at the frontier of what is scientifically possible — pushing the boundaries of wireless technology to deliver solutions that perform where conventional systems cannot.
DTC’s technology is trusted by customers across military and defence, law enforcement, government, broadcast and the rapidly growing uncrewed vehicle sector, including drones and autonomous platforms. At the core of DTC’s capability is an ability to wirelessly transmit data over long ranges with exceptional reliability, security and resilience — qualities that matter most when the stakes are highest.
The business has built a strong reputation across NATO-aligned defence forces and government agencies, supplying tactical data links and RF communications systems that are integrated into platforms ranging from ground vehicles and maritime vessels to fixed-wing aircraft and unmanned systems. DTC’s engineering-led culture drives continuous innovation, with significant investment directed toward next-generation waveform development, software- defined radio and IP-based networking capabilities.
As part of the Codan Group, DTC benefits from shared engineering expertise, global infrastructure and the financial strength of an ASX-listed parent with a 65-year track record in communications technology. The acquisition of Adaptive Dynamics further strengthens DTC’s position in the signals intelligence and electronic warfare space, extending the Group’s reach into some of the most strategically important areas of modern defence communications.
Detection
Minelab is the world’s most trusted name in metal detection technology, producing advanced detection systems for a broad spectrum of applications — from recreational gold prospecting and treasure hunting through to professional mining operations and life-saving humanitarian demining programs. Headquartered in Adelaide, South Australia, Minelab has been at the forefront of detection innovation for more than three decades, earning a global reputation built on engineering excellence, product reliability and deep customer understanding.
Minelab’s consumer and professional detector ranges are sold in markets around the world, with products designed to operate effectively across a wide variety of soil types, terrain and environmental conditions. Whether a weekend prospector searching remote Australian goldfields or a professional operator working in the mineralised soils of West Africa, Minelab’s technology consistently outperforms the competition — a claim backed by an unmatched portfolio of proprietary signal processing technologies developed and refined over decades of focused research and development.
In the humanitarian sector, Minelab’s CEIA and MIMID detector platforms are deployed by demining organisations in conflict-affected regions across Africa, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, helping to clear landmines and explosive remnants of war and restore safety and livelihoods to affected communities. This work reflects a deeper purpose that runs through the Minelab business — the belief that better detection technology saves lives.
As part of the Codan Group, Minelab continues to invest in next-generation detection platforms, expanding the application of its core sensing and signal processing expertise into new markets while remaining the benchmark against which all other metal detection technology is measured.
