Codan has brought together Australian companies from across the defence, advanced manufacturing and technology sectors to explore opportunities to contribute to its proposed solution for the Australian Dence Force’s Land 4140 Work Package 16 Tactical Edge Radio program.

Hosted at Codan’s Mawson Lakes headquarters, the Australian Industry Brief attracted 62 companies and 89 Industry representatives, with 24 attending in person and a further 65 joining online from across Australia.

The strong response highlighted the depth of Australian capability and the interest in contributing to a sovereign, Australian led tactical communications capability for Defence

During the briefing, Codan outlined its proposed DTC tactical edge radio solution and the opportunities for Australian businesses to contributed across advanced manufacturing, engineering, software, systems integration, technology supply, training, logistics and trough-life support.

Participants who attended in person also toured production and engineering facilities, seeing first-hand the communications technology being developed and manufactured in South Australia, supported by established production infrastructure and a highly skilled engineering workforce.

Codan CEO and Managing Director Alf Ianniello said the response demonstrated the capability and determination within Australian industry to contribute to a nationally significant Defence capability.

“The strength of the response from Australian industry has been outstanding. It demonstrates that Australian companies have both the capability and the determination to contribute to the technologies that will protect and connect Australian soldiers.”

For Codan, the opportunity extends beyond the delivery of a tactical radio. LAND 4140 provides an opportunity to strengthen sovereign defence communications capability, build a resilient Australian supply chain and create enduring opportunities for Australian engineering, manufacturing, technology and skills.

Vice President Asia- Pacific Matthew Jones said the briefing marked the beginner of deeper engagement with Australian companies as Codan develops its LAND4140 tender response.

“Our objectives is to build a genuinely Australian solution around Codan’s proven tactical communication technology. We want Australian businesses to see themselves not simply as suppliers, but as long-term partners in the delivery, sustainment and future evolution of this sovereign capability.”

Codan will now assess the products, technologies, services and industrial capabilities presented by participating companies. This will inform the company’s Australian Industry Capability approach and help identify competitive Australian contributions for its proposed solution and supporting supply chain.

The engagement builds on Codan’s more than 65 years of Australian engineering and manufacturing experience. Headquartered in Adelaide, Codan designs, manufactures and supports advanced technology for demanding environments, with its communications solutions supplied to customers across defence, security and public safety markets around the world.

The Land 414 engagement provides an opportunity to connect this established capability with the broader Australian industrial base and bring together the technologies, expertise and manufacturing capability needed to support a sovereign tactical communications solution.
