Financial Controller, Radio Communications
I started at Codan over 7 years ago while I was still at Uni studying a double degree in Commerce, filling in on the reception desk. In the two years following as I continued to study, I completed rotations in accounts payable and then moved on and worked as a Junior Accountant in the HF business. Codan was supportive of my studies and provided me with opportunities that became the building blocks of my career. Codan provides an environment that enables its employees to grow. Codan invests in their employees by providing opportunities that allow us to grow our careers within the Codan group, and become the future leaders.
Today I am the Financial Controller of the Radio Communications division working as part of a truly global senior management team and I am thankful to those who have seen potential in me and helped me develop my career.
Dr Eng-Leng Mah
Senior Electronic Design Engineer, Minelab Electronics
I started as a Graduate Electronics Engineer in the Minelab business thinking I was only going to stay for a couple of years but 2017 is my 10th year! One of the key ingredients to a fantastic 10 years is the people around me. Teamwork, equal opportunities, positive motivations and encouragement amongst peers and a cohesive mindset are aptitudes that exist in my fellow “Minelabians” and have made my everyday work so much more pleasant and exciting. Working on cutting-edge technology is the second element that keeps my role challenging and interesting.
Unlike many other companies, we have a strong focus on continuous improvement despite the fact that our technology is far ahead of our competitors. I have gained invaluable experience and practical knowledge from working on a wide range of projects. Starting from a graduate in Product Development to Electronics Engineer in R&D and now back in Product Development in a senior role has provided me the opportunity to explore different responsibilities within the company. My role has provided opportunities to travel overseas representing the company to provide engineering solutions to our subcontractors as well as roadshows to promote and educate customers on our products.
This year, I’ve volunteered to be a mentor for our new intake of graduates. I believe every young engineer needs a mentor no matter how independent or intelligent one can be. I have had great mentors throughout my career – even today – and I think great mentorship helps to build strong, valuable engineers.
